Namibia won by 4 wkts
The players from both teams receive their medals. It's then time for the fireworks to go and the photo sessions to start. Celebrations will continue in the Namibian camp all day long. The players and the crowd look ecstatic, they qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup a few days ago, but this is a bigger moment of joy. They knew they had a modest chase on hand, they kept losing wickets, but they didn't let it affect them. Picked the right moments and the right bowlers to attack and conjured up a famous day in the cricket annals of Namibia. This win should give plenty of confidence going into the big tournament. Can the plucky underdogs surprise more teams in the 2026 WC? They'll continue to prepare and they'll start to beleve in themselves. The party will continue long into the night in Namibia - do follow our pages for more cricketing action. For now, cheers and bye..
Ruben Trumpelmann | Player of the Match: It’s truly special to be here with our fans, it means a lot. This one's surely for Namibia, it’s massive. I think it was a bonus for us. We kept things simple, stuck to our lengths, and forced them into a few errors. That helped limit the total to 135, and we’re very happy with that.
Gerhard Erasmus | Namibia captain: Obviously you can see what it means for the team. If you look into the crowd spaces, you can see what it means for them. And that’s what’s special about, I think, any national team playing in front of their own people - it’s how you inspire the next generation to play, and how you inspire the community upwards, I guess. I think the guys did it with good skill. I’m proud of them, that’s so good. You know, both of them (Green and Trumplemann) operate at a high level, they’re consistent performers. So it’s okay for Zane Green, on his birthday, to come off like that. Such a special moment. It’s so important to play against high-quality opposition. The South African side - certainly we’d like them to come over a little bit more. So thank you for coming, for playing in such good spirit with our boys, and for the good skill our people got to see. This is just the start of things going upward. Look, we’re a small community, but we’re very tight. We’re very tight-knit, not only around the Windhoek area, but all across the country.
Donovan Ferreira | South Africa captain: Not the result we wanted. Well, firstly with the bat, I don’t think we put on a decent total - we got ourselves dismissed a bit softly there. And then with the ball, unfortunately, Coetzee getting injured didn’t help us, it didn’t do us any justice. But like I said, all credit to these guys, they played really well.
Stats by Shashikant Singh
-- This is also the second time Namibia won on the last ball of a T20I game after they beat Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2022.
-- This is the second time South Africa has lost on the last ball of the match, following their 5-wicket loss to Australia in Johannesburg in 2016.
-- This is the second time South Africa has lost to an associate nation in T20Is, following their loss to the Netherlands at Adelaide in the 2022 World Cup.
-- South Africa is the fourth full-member nation that Namibia has defeated in T20Is, after Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka.
The bowlers set things up by restricting a strong South African line-up to a modest total and their batters managed to steer them home - they kept losing wickets, but they did keep a lid on the asking rate and ensured that it didn't go out of reach. Plenty of small but vital contributions and it was set-up for Zane Green's match-winning cameo (a 23-ball 30*). He did struggle to rotate the strike at times, took his time to settle, but then switched gears perfectly in the last couple of overs. South Africa lost Gerald Coetzee to a suspected pectoral muscle injury and that did hamper their plans, but there was no hiding to the fact that they didn't have the best day in the field, the catching was good, but the bowling looked rusty, 10 wides and 2 no-balls finally costing them the game.
17:21 Local Time, 15:21 GMT, 20:51 IST: What a moment to savour. A new ground, it's the day of inauguration and Nambia have marked it with a famous win over their Test playing neighbours. Granted that South Africa didn't have their best XI, but this is an epoch moment for the home team. Zane Green was up and roaring as soon as he connected the smote, the dressing room went  up in sheer delight and there's a lot of happy faces in the crowd. Built for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, Windhoek's brand new stadium couldn't have hoped for a better start. The entire team rushed to the middle in celebrations, plenty of high fives and they now walk around in a lap of honour to thank their beloved supporters.
