Rain played spoilsport in the third T20I between New Zealand and England in Auckland allowing just 3.4 overs of play. Courtesy of their win in the second T20I in Christchurch, England won the T20I series 1-0 as the first T20I was also washed out.
Play began on time and Tim Seifert got the innings underway with two boundaries in the first three balls but rain interrupted proceedings for the first time resulting in a delay of an hour-and-a-half. The delay resulted in what was to be a curtailed encounter of a 14-over-a-side game. Seifert scooped Brydon Carse for six but the bowler got the wicket of his partner Tim Robinson who holed out in the deep.
Rachin Ravindra scooped Carse for another six while Seifert pulled the lanky bowler into the stands over mid-wicket. Immediately after this six, the heavens opened up yet again to result in a further delay of 40 minutes. Just when the players were about to step out for an eight-over game, it started raining again to completely wipe off any chance of getting a game.
England and New Zealand will now face each other in three ODIs starting from October 26.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 38/1 in 3.4 overs (Tim Seifert 23*, Rachin Ravindra 10*; Brydon Carse 1-25) vs England - match abandoned due to rain
